It was April 14, 2008,

I found myself at the courthouse in downtown Decatur, GA attending a divorce trial that would make a five-year marriage final…mine!

I signed on the dotted line, making it official.

As I walked down the hallway, headed toward the elevator, I pushed the “Down” button.

Once inside the elevator, the doors began to close, and I saw my now ex-husband for the last time.

Then, my phone rang.

As I descended down to the lobby floor, I took a chance on getting a cell phone signal inside the elevator, and I answered.

I’m glad I did, because it was my cousin calling to tell me that my mom had just passed away.

At the time, I was living in a transitional housing facility for the working poor facing homelessness.

A few weeks later, my corporate job downsized…

I’ll fill you in on the rest during the Black Woman Life Coach Certification Training, but here’s a bit of a hint…

I spent the next few years getting my life together, and here’s how I did it.

I decided to take control of my destiny.

But, I felt like I needed permission.

I had a burning desire for knowledge and a passion for helping others.

As a former Psychology major at Clark Atlanta University, I vowed to ‘help others while helping myself’ understand life and heal our way through it.

Thanks to the help of a friend, on April 27, 2013, I became an internationally recognized Certified Personal Life Coach.

I studied my notes from class, re-read the training manual, read tons of books, watched various DVDs and online videos, listened to countless cassette tapes, CDs, and audio books, attended any special event, conference, summit, panel, symposium, tele-conference, webinar, and seminar I could get access to or get my hands on.

What I learned, plus the framed certificate on my home-office wall gave me exactly what I needed to start my new journey as a Certified Life Coach.

My first coaching client was a nonprofit organization leader and a political candidate who’s now using the impact of her coaching sessions with me to advocate for social change in her community.

As my life coaching company grew, I also became a well-known and recognized Speaker in my hometown.

People who heard me speak loved the confidence I had in myself and my coaching business and began asking me how they too could become a Certified Life Coach.

Isn’t Certification is “just a piece of paper”…

There’s a scripture in The Bible that reads, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night” . –Psalm 1:1-2

What this means to me is that when someone sells you on the idea that you don’t need to be certified as a Coach:

They’re stripping you of a chance to better yourself and gain knowledge, learn the skills, connect with a new community of support, and implement the information you’ll obtain as a newly Certified Life Coach by going through a certification process (leads to imposter syndrome)
They usually have a hidden agenda and are selling you something else or trying to convince you to copy/paste what they’re doing (shiny object syndrome)
This leads to the uncertified attempting to coach (blind leading the blind), hurt people hurting people

Will I need to take Continuing Education Units (CEUs)?

Additional trainings are available, but not mandatory.

Will I be able to carry my certification across states?

Will I need to be re-certified after a certain period of time?

I am already a Certified Life Coach. What would I learn in this training that I could add to my toolkit?

I personally have attended several additional life coach trainings (both online and offline — several of which can no longer be found online today…) — so, I know what’s out there (and what’s missing). I also have no way of knowing the extent of your life coach training (what you were taught, what you absorbed, what was not covered in your learning, or if the information many ‘fly-by-night training’ companies offer).

The Black Woman Christian Life Coach Certification Self-Study System is known to (and has been said by several Dual Certified Life Coaches) fill-in-the-blanks of the often missing modern-day information gaps (and traps) that are not commonly found in most of the outdated “traditional” life coach trainings that are based on information from the late 1980’s and early 1990’s; when the life coaching industry was first founded.

Many of our Dual Coaches (who have received our most updated version of training and certification) mention how they have tried other trainings, but leave feeling unfulfilled, unsatisfied, and unseen as a Black woman of faith (and like ‘just another number’ being used as the token Black girl to help meet a ‘diversity and inclusion’ quota). I often get the calls to my office that they still feel like something’s missing.

Plus, it never hurts to re-certify to become a Dual Certified Life Coach, get a refresher to remind you of the knowledge and information you forgot you once knew (but have not yet put to use), and add ‘Christian’ to your title!

Remember, 2 Timothy 2:15 in The Bible says to “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman needed not be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth”. In Christian Coach Certification, this means that it doesn’t hurt (and is nothing to be ashamed of) if you want a repeat or refresher course for your training and lifelong learning needs (I’m proud to say that since 2014, I’ve personally been through a series of Life Coach Certification training classes for a total of 27 total times!)

Taking the psychology would steer learning more toward spending the next 6-8 years in the counseling/clinical arena (not coaching). I would advise looking into the types of psychology courses being offered and determine how you will use it to help build your personal or professional coaching brand.

I read that the program was a one day class. Most programs are 5-6 months. How does the certification work?

I’ve been a Black Life Coach Certification Trainer and Master Life Coach for 9 years. I’ve certified nearly 200 Coaches worldwide by removing the fluff that most trainings teach (I know because I was taught it too!). Our Coaches know how to get-to-the-point and Coach in order to help their coaching clients have their breakthrough. It doesn’t take long to learn this life-changing skill.

What are the graduation requirements and is there room to achieve a Master Life Coach Certification?

Successful completion of the six-module training, an assessment, and a coaching viva (critique) series are required. Master-level Coach is not a training we offer, although, much like my journey, our most successful Black Women Christian Certified Life Coaches have mastered their areas of expertise through continuing education with me that landed them on television reality shows, documentaries, as major conference speakers, workshop and event Hostesses, and celebrity status inside and outside of our coaching community.

Is this certification regionally, nationally, internationally recognized?

Our 24-Hour Black Women Christian Certified Life Coaches have global and international recognition (one just received her first invitation to speak in France)

I know the course is a self-paced, self-study program, but I’m more of a live, in-person, hands-on learner who needs direct feedback. Is there an accountability piece included?

Accountability activities have been added throughout the training that cover all three of the major learning styles from audio, visual and hands-on/kinesthetic/demonstrative learners). We also have several Coaches within our coaching community with diagnosed ADD/ADHD, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and COVID-19 who have all successfully completed their certification training worth us — all in record time. This, along with several efficient and effective ways for you to contact your Trainer (and for your Trainer to check in on you) and your ability to reach out to your fellow sister Coaches throughout our entire time together (before, during, and after the training) have been factored in to the course.

Here’s a little more information about me and our 24-Hour Black Woman Christian Life Coach Certification Training:

I train because, within the life coaching industry, organizations charge thousands of dollars and require hundreds of coaching hours to become a Certified Life Coach. This isn’t necessary, and often discriminatory, leaving many future Black Women Life Coaches feeling excluded.

I’ve personally dealt with homelessness, dropping out of college, the downsizing of my corporate career, and the death of my mom happening on the same day my divorce became final.
